'A Very Country Christmas' in Wilson

On Sunday, Dec. 9, the Village of Wilson will open up its streets and its heart to celebrate a community Christmas event titled, "A Very Country Christmas."

There will be plenty of activities for all ages, and participants are encouraged to bring a smile and a carload of friends.

Event organizer Pastor Stephen Hay explained, "We like to do things a little differently in Wilson. We will be celebrating the true meaning of the Christmas season in style - country style."

The day includes an assortment of holiday activities: a Christmas cantata at Exley Methodist Church at 2:30 p.m.; face-painting, a coloring contest, and food pantry drop-off at Wilson First Baptist from 3 to 5:45 p.m.; holiday crafts at the Wilson Free Library from 3 to 5:45 p.m.; hot cider at the Wilson Firehall from 3 to 5:45 p.m.; and bells playing and Christmas bingo at St. Paul's Lutheran Church from 3 to 5:45 p.m.

Also, a petting zoo, pony and tractor rides at Our Lady of the Rosary Catholic Church from 3 to 5:45 p.m.; Santa and Mrs. Claus and the Giving Tree at the Wilson House from 3 to 5:45 p.m.; cookie decorating and refreshments at the Episcopal church from 3 to 5:45 p.m.; a pie baking contest at Wilson Lakeside IGA from 3 to 5:45 p.m.; Christmas carols at the electronic sign at 5:55 p.m.; a pie eating contest at the sign at 6:10 p.m.; and the tree lighting countdown at the sign at 6:20 p.m.
