Visitors to Youngstown's "Christmas in the Village" program on Saturday, Dec. 8, will have the opportunity to enter a drawing for free family passes to Old Fort Niagara's popular "Castle by Candlelight" programs scheduled for Saturday nights, Dec. 15 and 22.

Volunteers from the fort will set up an 18th century camp scene outside the Red Brick School from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. In addition to talking with the soldiers and seeing uniforms and camp equipment from 250 years ago, visitors will be able to enter to win passes that admit two adults and two children to the fort's holiday event.

OFN's display will include a nine-man tent, soldiers' winter equipment and common possessions owned by 18th century common soldiers. The outdoor display will also offer the opportunity to handle reproductions of artifacts from the 18th century fur trade and discover how winter fur traders, or hivernants, survived long Great Lakes winters.

Old Fort Niagara is located in Youngstown, 14 miles north of Niagara Falls via the Robert Moses Parkway North. The fort opens at 9 a.m. daily year 'round, and is open until 5 p.m. during the winter months. Admissions end at 4:30 p.m. The fort is closed Dec. 25 and Jan. 1. Old Fort Niagara is a National Landmark and State Historic Site operated by the Old Fort Niagara Association (a not-for-profit organization) in cooperation with the New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
