Several of the key writers from the recently published binational book, "From the Mouth of the Lower Niagara River: Stories of Four Historic Communities," will be present at the Lewiston Public Library on Wednesday, Dec. 5, at 7 p.m., for a special book signing event.

Library spokesperson Michelle Kratts reports that four teams of authors worked on this project for several years hoping to create a work reflective of the unique histories of the four communities that grew alongside the Lower Niagara River: Lewiston, Queenston, Niagara-on-the-Lake and Youngstown.

"Much of this history includes new insight into the War of 1812, the Underground Railroad, the influence of immigration and tourism, as well as social commentaries on everyday life in these communities," she said. "Ultimately, this work serves as a testament to 200 years of peace between two nations: the United States and Canada."

The book -- a collaborative, binational writing effort -- will be available for sale ($19.95) Wednesday through the Historical Association of Lewiston, which helped publish the book. Proceeds from the sale of the book benefit the Historical Association of Lewiston, as well as the Town of Porter Historical Society and the Niagara Museum and Historical Society, Niagara-on-the-Lake.

The book celebrates 200 years of peace enjoyed along the Niagara River corridor between the U.S. and Canada with historical anecdotes and photos from each riverfront community. Funding was provided by the Niagara River Greenway Commission, with additional monies from the Niagara Falls Bridge Commission. It is available for sale at more than 20 local outlets.
