Old Falls Street also announces all seasonal activities for winter 2012

Join Santa Claus as he arrives by Niagara Falls city fire truck to illuminate the trees along all three blocks of Old Falls Street, USA (more than 100,000 lights), this Friday, Nov. 23 ("Black Friday"), from 6 to 7 p.m., outside the Old Falls Street entrance of The Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls (101 Old Falls St.).

The festive outdoor tree illumination will extend throughout the winter season and will be complimented by various holiday vignettes, extending the annual Holiday Lights Niagara Trail from Hyde Park to the downtown Niagara Falls area.

Guests of the hour-long outdoor tree lighting ceremony will enjoy live music by Tom Proctor and complimentary hot chocolate as they stroll along Old Falls Street, USA, marking the beginning of the 2012 holiday season in downtown Niagara Falls. The ceremony will be followed by a live concert by the legendary Isley Brothers, held inside The Conference & Event Center. (Please note: The Isley Brothers concert is a paid ticketed event, with tickets available at www.demproinc.com).

"Old Falls Street, USA, is going to illuminate all of its 96 trees like never before," said Global Spectrum's Ryan Coate, general manager of Old Falls Street, USA, and The Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls. "We invite all Niagara Falls residents to enjoy this display as Old Falls Street collaborates with the United Way of Greater Niagara's Holiday Lights Niagara Trail and various regional organizations in order to celebrate the 2012 winter season in this most festive way."

Old Falls Street's outdoor tree décor was designed by Harris & Lever Florists, with special electrician assistance by the City of Niagara Falls and the Local IATSE 121 stage union. Appreciation is also given to the United Way of Greater Niagara, the Culinary Institute of Niagara Falls, and the Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel, which will have representatives on hand that evening.

In addition to the outdoor tree lighting ceremony, Old Falls Street, USA, has planned the following activities throughout the winter season:

Old Falls Street's third annual Breakfast With Santa

  • Saturday, Dec. 1, from 8:30 to 11 a.m.
  • Inside the Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls

Enjoy a deluxe buffet and a personal visit with Santa Claus himself. The morning includes Santa's reading of " 'Twas The Night Before Christmas," photo opportunities, arts and crafts, holiday cookie decorating, traditional children's holiday movies and much more.

Bring a donation of new winter hats, gloves, scarves and socks for the United Way of Niagara's Giving Tree for your child's chance to win a festive holiday gift basket.

Tickets are available now or at the door: $12 for adults, $8 for children 12 and under and seniors 65 and over. Call 716-278-2100 for more information.

Old Falls Street's third annual Stuff-A-Bus

  • Friday, Dec. 7, from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.
  • Inside The Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls (use main entrance off Old Falls Street)

Join Old Falls Street and members of the Downtown Niagara Falls Business Association for the annual Stuff-A-Bus Food Drive, held in cooperation with the NFTA's festive Holly Trolley, on Friday, Dec. 7. In the spirit of the holiday season, organizers ask all employees working within the downtown Niagara Falls area to donate non-perishable food items so that collectively they can "stuff the Holly Trolley" full of food to benefit Community Missions of the Niagara Frontier.

Items will be driven to Community Missions that afternoon, just prior to the Holly Trolley's annual tour of Niagara Falls.

Blues Christmas on Old Falls Street

  • Friday, Dec. 14, from 6:30 to 11 p.m.
  • Inside The Conference & Event Center Niagara Falls

Spend the evening on Old Falls Street for the first ever Blues Christmas event featuring live blues music by Big Tobacco and The Electras, as well as a barbecue buffet, with proceeds benefitting the sixth annual Niagara Falls Blues Festival (September 2013). The event will be hosted inside the picturesque Cataract Room overlooking Old Falls Street's thousands of holiday lights.
