Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Nov. 9, 2012

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 145 calls from Oct. 27 to Nov. 2. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to eight burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Oct. 27

•Jenell Drive, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a male subject she did not know was knocking on her door early in the morning. Deputies located the subject, who was lost, and assisted him in returning to a family member's house.

•Baseline Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a 911 hang up call. Deputies spoke to the homeowner and determined the call to be a misdial.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a male subject appeared to be breaking into the cash machine at a car wash business on Grand Island Boulevard. Deputies located the subject and determined him to be the owner of the business who was conducting repairs.

•Staley Road, parking violation - A complainant stated that numerous cars were parked on the roadside and were obstructing traffic. Deputies located the owners of the vehicles and advised them to move the cars.

Sunday, Oct. 28

•Long Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated a vehicle was swerving in and out of traffic. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Stony Point Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Wallace Drive, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a few subjects were walking around a home for sale in the neighborhood. Deputies located the subjects and determined it to be the real estate agent with potential buyers.

Monday, Oct. 29

•East River Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a 1 car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a suspicious male subject was walking around the Laundry Lounge. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated a suspicious male was walking around the parking lot of Sunoco Express and was making employees nervous. Deputies located the subject and advised him.

•Broadway, harassment - A complainant stated he was receiving calls from a person that was attempting to scam him.

•Marlin Road, suspicious incident - A U.S. Postal Employee encountered some guns in a mailbox while delivering mail on her route. Deputies located the guns which were determined to be fake, and had been used at a recent Halloween Party.

•Grand Island Boulevard, tampering - A complainant stated that she exited Tops and found a subject she was not familiar with in her vehicle. The subject attempted to flee before the arrival of Patrol. Deputies located the subject nearby and arrested a 49-year-old man from Grand Island for tampering in the third degree (a class A misdemeanor) and harassment in the second degree (a violation). The man was transported to the Erie County Holding Center pending his arraignment in the Town of Grand Island Court.

•East River Road, wire down - Deputies assisted Grand Island Fire Co. with a report of a wire down.

•Love Road, drunk driving - Deputies responded to a Grand Island address to assist Buffalo Police Department with a possible hit-and-run accident that occurred in the City of Buffalo. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 70-year-old woman from Grand Island for driving while intoxicated and other vehicle and traffic violations. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party.

•East River Road, road obstruction - Deputies responded to a report of a tree branch that had fallen and was obstructing traffic. NITTEC was notified.

Tuesday, Oct. 30

•East River Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that two suspicious male subjects were walking near the South Grand Island Bridge and appeared to be up to no good. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects.

•Park Place, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be a mistake.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a vehicle drove past her and someone from inside screamed "Help Me". Deputies checked the area extensively but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Bush Road, suspicious vehicle - Deputies located two suspicious vehicles on Bush Road that did not appear to belong there. No occupants were in or around the vehicles.

•Stony Point Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Whitehaven Road, motorist broke down - Deputies assisted a motorist whose vehicle had become disabled.

•Alt Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a suspicious male subject came to her door and left a ticket to pick up a package from UPS. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

Wednesday, Oct. 31

•Meadow Lane, wire down - Deputies responded to a report of a wire down. National Grid was notified.

•East River Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a lawn ornament was taken from the front yard of his residence. Deputies were able to determine the ornament was moved by the complainant's wife as to not get damaged by the storm.

•Greenway Road, wire down - Deputies responded to a report of a wire down. National Grid was notified.

Thursday, Nov. 1

•Ransom Road, parking violation - Employees of Grand Island High School stated that a vehicle was parked and blocking the school bus lane. Deputies located the vehicle and issued a parking ticket.

•East River Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a van was driving down the road and looking into people's mailboxes. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Baseline Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, an unknown person stole her wallet containing credit cards and personal information. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Whitehaven Road, marijuana arrest - Deputies located a suspicious vehicle parked in a business parking lot late at night. Their investigation led to the arrest of two juvenile offenders for criminal possession of marijuana in the fifth degree (a class B misdemeanor). The juvenile offenders were issued appearance tickets returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

Friday, Nov. 2

•East River Road, road obstruction - A complainant stated that a semi-truck was parked in the roadway and blocking traffic. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the semi.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that while he was shopping at a supermarket an unknown person entered his unlocked vehicle and stole various items.

•Whitehaven Road, customer trouble - Employees at a business stated that a group of kids were causing a disturbance. Deputies located the youths and advised them.

•Bush Road, animal loose - A complainant stated a loose dog was running in the neighborhood. The dog control officer was notified.

•East River Road, shots fired - A complainant stated he heard a shot ring out in the area during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects. No further shots were reported.
