The Niagara County Sheriff's Office applied for and received additional STOP DWI grant money for driving while intoxicated enforcement during specific "crackdown" periods throughout the year.

Halloween was one "crackdown" period. From Oct. 26 through Oct. 31, the Niagara County Sheriff's Office, Niagara Falls Police Department, North Tonawanda Police Department, Lockport Police Department, Middleport Police Department, Lewiston Police Department, Town of Niagara Police Department, Youngstown Police Department, and Barker Police Department all participated with increased patrols designated for DWI enforcement.

Twenty people across Niagara County were arrested during this time frame for DWI. As a result of having these extra patrols, other criminal arrests were made and approximately 400 tickets were issued. Future "crackdown" periods have already been scheduled, with all agencies again being involved.
