Youngstown Veterans Day events

Numerous activities are planned in Youngstown next weekend in honor of the area's veterans. Included is a dinner and basket raffle in honor of all veterans in the Lewiston-Porter area hosted by the Lewiston-Porter High School Junior ROTC.

Special guest that evening will be Theodore "Dutch" Van Kirk, the last living crewmember and navigator on the Enola Gay. Suzanne Simon Dietz, a Lewiston-Porter graduate, author, and Town of Porter historian, who wrote Van Kirk's authorized biography titled "My True Course" will accompany him at the dinner.

•Ray O'Keefe and his "Summer of '69" band will provide free entertainment for all veterans at the "Stone Jug," Main and Lockport streets, Youngstown, on Friday, Nov. 9, beginning at 8 p.m. Youngstown VFW Post 313 will sell T-shirts and is taking donations at the event. All proceeds will go to the post building fund.

•The Youngstown Veterans Day ceremony will take place on Monday, Nov. 12, at 11 a.m. at Veterans Park. It is open to the public and refreshments will be served immediately following the ceremony at the post on 434 Third St.
