Eyes on America Foundation donates cataract surgeries

Recently, the Eyes on America Foundation, led by cataract surgeon Dr. Kenneth D. Anthone of Amherst, together with Mount St. Mary's anesthesiologist Dr. Jack Huebschmann of Youngstown, donated 20 cataract surgeries for Western New York patients without health insurance. The surgeries were performed at the Anthone Eye Center in Amherst.

Appearing in a group photo following a surgery are Lions International 20 North Governor-elect Dan Dunn of West Seneca; Huebschmann, shown with his daughter, Anna, a junior at Lewiston-Porter High School; surgery recipient Beverly Staub of Rochester; Angela Taberski of the Anthone Eye Center; nurse Kathy Holler; surgery recipient Donna Yager of Wheatfield; Anthone, Eyes on America Foundation board chairman; and College of Osteopathic Medicine student Casey Komm, and her father, optometrist Dr. Kevin Komm, who practices at Gary Optical in Lewiston.

The initiative was part of the fourth annual Mission Cataract Day, sponsored by the Eyes on America Foundation. Anthone works closely with the Lions Clubs of Western New York.
