Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Oct. 26, 2012

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 163 calls from Oct. 13 to Oct. 19. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island. Deputies responded to 16 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Oct. 13

•I-190, drunk driving - While on patrol, deputies observed a vehicle traveling southbound in the northbound lanes on the I-190. Deputies initiated a traffic stop and their subsequent investigation led to the arrest of a 23-year-old woman from Amherst for driving while intoxicated and other traffic infractions. The woman registered a .17 percent blood-alcohol content after submitting a sample of her breath for chemical analysis. She was issued an appearance ticket returnable to Town of Grand Island Court and released to a sober third party.

•Jenell Drive, animal loose - A complainant stated a large dog was running loose in the area. The dog control officer was notified.

•Baseline Road, parking violation - A complainant stated that several vehicles were parked illegally in a private business lot. Deputies located the owners of the cars, who moved the vehicles.

•Waterford Park, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was being played from a residence in the neighborhood. Deputies located the source of the music and advised the homeowner.

•Ransom Road, animal complaint - A complainant stated that a unknown animal was in her house and was growling. The dog control officer was notified.

Sunday, Oct. 14

•East River Road, harassment - A complainant stated he was receiving harassing phone calls from a known person. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated a suspicious subject was panhandling in front of a store. Deputies located the subject and advised him.

•Whitehaven Road, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was driving fast through an apartment complex. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Fernwood Lane, all-terrain vehicle operation - A complainant stated that two dirt bikes were riding down the street. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the dirt bikes.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone stole a boat from a trailer on his property.

•Staley Road, animal injury - A complainant stated that an injured possum was in the roadway. Deputies removed the animal from the road.

•Deerwood Lane, attempted break-in - A complainant stated that the sliding door to her residence had been damaged in an attempt to enter the home. No entry was made.

•Carl Road, disturbance - A complainant stated she heard loud yelling coming from the street, then observed two subjects fighting. Deputies located the subjects, who admitted to having a disagreement. The subjects were advised.

•Baseline Road, property found - A complainant stated that a bicycle was found abandoned in the ditch. Deputies transported the bicycle back to the Grand Island Substation to be claimed.

•I-190, reckless operation - Deputies responded to a report of a vehicle operating recklessly on the I-190. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard, burglary - Deputies responded to a report of an alarm ringing at a commercial business. Upon arrival, deputies found a rear window to the business smashed. No suspects were observed in the area and nothing was reported missing at the time of the report. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

Monday, Oct. 15

•Grand Island Boulevard, burglary - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone broke into his business by smashing a window and stole various items. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Baseline Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be a misdial.

•Evelyn Court, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle followed him to his home. The complainant was able to get the license plate of the vehicle before it fled the scene. Deputies spoke to the owner of the suspect vehicle and advised him.

•Buckhorn Court, harassment - A complainant stated she was receiving harassing phone calls from a blocked number.

•West River Parkway, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

Tuesday, Oct. 16

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone stole various tools from a trailer parked in a business lot. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Fix Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated a suspicious vehicle was parked on the street and seemed to be occupied. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard, assist person - A complainant stated that his wallet was stolen approximately a day before the time of the report. The wallet was located and returned to the owner.

•Enola Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated a suspicious vehicle was parked in the street and had multiple occupants inside. Deputies located the vehicle a short distance away and advised the subjects.

•Revere Road, residential burglary - A complainant stated that sometime during the day, someone entered her home through an unlocked door and stole various items. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Stony Point Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•Grand Island Boulevard, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

Wednesday, Oct. 17

•Grand Island Boulevard, criminal mischief - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone punched a hole in the gas tank of her vehicle and siphoned out fuel.

•Baseline Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated she heard a loud explosion or possibly a gun shot in the area. Deputies checked the area but did not hear any other loud noises.

•Staley Road, accident hit and run - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident, where one driver fled the scene. Deputies were unable to locate the vehicle that fled. No injuries were reported.

•Grand Island Boulevard, disturbance public place - A complainant stated that several subjects were inside of a restaurant and were being loud and using vulgar language. Deputies were unable to locate the subjects, and spoke to employees who reported no such problem.

Thursday, Oct. 18

•Marjorie Drive, barking dog - A complainant stated two dogs in the neighborhood were constantly barking during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any barking dogs.

•Fareway Lane, residential burglary - A complainant stated that, sometime during the day, a known person entered her residence and stole various items from inside. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Baseline Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants, who were having service work done to their home.

•East Park Road, wire down - Deputies responded to a report of a wire down and arcing on a tree. National Grid was notified.

Friday, Oct. 19

•Jamestown Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone stole a truck and a forklift from a business. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•East Oakfield Road, shots fired - A complainant stated he heard multiple shots fired in the area. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any source of gun shots.

•Bush Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•Driftwood Drive, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.
