Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Oct. 19, 2012

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 155 calls from Oct. 6 to Oct. 12. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 11 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Oct. 6

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Bedell Road, parking violation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was blocking a handicapped parking spot in an apartment complex. Deputies issued a parking ticket.

•Center Terrace, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in the roadway and appeared to be occupied. Deputies located the vehicle, whose driver pulled over to use her cellular phone.

•Fix Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that he heard a loud banging in the area of Fix Road and Baseline Road. Deputies checked but did not hear any loud banging.

Sunday, Oct. 7

•Whitehaven Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that two suspicious females were walking around inside a hotel. Deputies located the females, who were visiting friends.

•Grand Island Boulevard, customer trouble - Employees at a fast food restaurant stated that a customer was causing a disturbance and refused to leave. Deputies located the subject and advised him.

•Havenwood Lane, animal loose - A complainant stated that a dog was running loose in the area. The dog control officer was notified.

•Ward Park Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that two youths were running through backyards in the area. Deputies checked but were unable to locate the youths.

•Marilyn Drive, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that he observed two youths throw an object at a residence. Deputies located the two youths, who were advised and turned over to their parents.

•Riverwoods Drive, harassment - A complainant stated that he was receiving harassing phone calls from a blocked number.

Monday, Oct. 8

•Sawmill Run, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone threw plastic spoons all over her lawn. No damage was observed.

•Second Street, residential burglary - A complainant stated that, sometime during the last month, someone stole various items from her residence. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a three-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Stony Point Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during recent weeks, someone stole a tree stand from his property.

•Ransom Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a suspicious male was walking around the parking lot of her apartment complex. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

•Whitehaven Road, customer trouble - Employee of a gas station/convenience store stated that an intoxicated male entered the store and attempted to buy beer. The employee refused to sell the subject the alcohol, and the male caused a disturbance. The subject left on foot prior to the arrival of patrol. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subject.

Tuesday, Oct. 9

•Winkler Drive, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•Baseline Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated an elderly male was walking down the road and appeared to be lost. Deputies located the subject and assisted him in getting home.

•Marilyn Drive, larceny - A complainant stated that fraudulent charges were made on his credit card. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Woodlee Lane, suspicious incident - A complainant stated a screen window was damaged in an apparent attempt to enter her residence. No entry was made.

•Marilyn Drive, residential burglary - A complainant stated that sometime during the day, someone entered his residence through an unlocked door and stole various items. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Whitehaven Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime in recent days, someone stole various landscaping items from a cemetery on Whitehaven Road.

•Baseline Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a 911 hang-up call. Deputies spoke to the occupants and determined the call to be an accident.

•Bedell Road, parking violation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was blocking a handicapped parking spot in an apartment complex. Deputies issued a parking ticket.

Wednesday, Oct. 10

•Carter Drive, assist person - A complainant stated that a construction company was operating noisy equipment in the early hours of the morning. Deputies advised all parties.

•West River Road, deer struck - Deputies responded to a report of a one-car motor vehicle accident involving a deer. No injuries were reported.

•Staley Road, larceny - A complainant stated that someone stole a manhole cover from the street. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Love Road, accident injury - Deputies responded to a report of a bicyclist struck by a vehicle on Love Road. The bicyclist was transported to a local hospital with seemingly not life-threatening injuries.

•East River Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that earlier in the day, two men came to her house and claimed they were working for the state and needed to do measurements. The complainant told the men to come back, which they never did.

•East River Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that a loose dog was running through the neighborhood. Deputies located the dog and returned it to the owner.

Thursday, Oct. 11

•Grand Island Boulevard, larceny - Employees of a doughnut shop stated that another employee stole money from the business. Deputies' investigation led to the arrest of a 28-year-old man from Grand Island for petit larceny (a class A misdemeanor). The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•East River Road, larceny - A complainant stated that, during recent weeks, a known person stole cash from her residence. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Jen Court, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that three suspicious males came to her residence and attempted to sell raffle tickets for an inner city football program. The complainant was concerned the subjects were scoping out the neighborhood. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the subjects.

Friday, Oct. 12

•Woodlee Lane, suspicious person - A complainant stated that earlier in the morning a suspicious male subject walked through his backyard. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects.

•Bedell Road, wire down - Deputies responded to a report of a wire down on Bedell Road. National Grid was notified.

•Wallace Drive, suspicious person - A complainant stated a suspicious male subject came to her residence to sell raffle tickets for an inner city football program. Deputies located the male a short distance away and advised him.

•Grand Island Boulevard, accident hit and run - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident in a parking lot on Grand Island Boulevard. The complainant stated that a vehicle struck another vehicle in the lot and then left the scene. Deputies located the suspect vehicle and arrested the driver, a 23-year-old man from Grand Island, for aggravated unlicensed operation in the third degree and other vehicle and traffic violations.

•Grand Island Boulevard, warrant arrest - Following an investigation of the above accident hit and run, deputies arrested the 23-year-old man after a check showed he had an outstanding arrest warrant from the Town of Cheektowaga. He was turned over to the Cheektowaga Police Department.

•Woodlee Lane, residential burglary - A complainant stated that, sometime during the previous night, a known person entered his residence by breaking a second-floor window. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.
