Community Missions hosts antiques and fine arts auction

Community Missions will hold an Antiques and Fine Arts Auction from 12:15 to 4 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 11, at the First Presbyterian Church of Youngstown, 100 Church St. Admission is $10 per person or $15 per couple.

The afternoon will begin with a viewing of the items for auction and an international sampling of hors d'oeuvres including French, Italian, Vietnamese, Indian, Danish and other delicacies. Viewing will begin at 12:15 p.m. The auction will begin at 1 p.m. There will be more than 200 items up for bid, including quilts, jewelry, gilt mirrors, art glass, bronzes, lamps, dolls, crystal, rocking chairs, paintings with several listed artists, an antique screen and silver tea sets. The event also features a jewelry sale.

The auction will include a late-1800s painting by John B. Whittaker. He was one of the founders of the Brooklyn Museum of Art, which still has several of his paintings.

The auctioneer is Bob Deull and the co-chairs are Ginger McNally, Michael and Laurie Ryan, and Mary Maj. The honorary chair is Carol Rogers.

The auction will support the Community Missions Crisis Services Program, which includes the soup kitchen (called Community Kitchen), food pantry, homeless shelter, "Mark's Place" home for people living with AIDS, and parole re-entry participants. Crisis Services at Community Missions provides more than 70,000 meals each year in its soup kitchen, while its homeless shelter provides more than 8,000 nights of shelter to more than 500 individuals and families.
