The towns of Porter and Lewiston Democratic committees are hosting a "Meet the Democratic Candidates" event from 10 a.m. to noon, Saturday, Oct. 20, at the First Presbyterian Church, 100 Church St., in Youngstown.

The event is open to the public and will feature Congresswoman Kathy Hochul appearing via Skype, Niagara County Sheriff James Voutour, State Senate candidate Amy Hope Witryol, 145th Assembly District candidate Robert Restaino and Porter town justice candidate Patrick Stack.

Candidates will speak for 10 minutes and accept questions from the public. Tables with candidate information and signs will also be available.

Porter Democratic Chairman Ernest Lavigueur said many voters are unaware that new district lines, signed into law earlier this year by Gov. Andrew Cuomo, have changed Congressional, Senate and Assembly lines. He said the presidential election will prompt more people to vote and the local Democratic committees want voters to be aware of the Democratic candidates running for federal, state and local offices.

"We have great candidates running this year," Lavigueur said. "No matter what a person's political affiliation is or if they don't have one at all, we encourage them to attend this event and meet our candidates. Once they do, we believe they will earn their support."

Refreshments will be served.
