Erie County Sheriff's Office Report for Oct. 12, 2012

The Erie County Sheriff's Office responded to 154 calls from Sept. 29 to Oct. 5. Below is a sampling of the noteworthy incidents on Grand Island.

Deputies responded to 13 burglary false alarm calls during the dates of this report.

Saturday, Sept. 29

•Sandy Beach Road, barking dog - A complainant stated that a dog was barking for a few hours late at night. Deputies located the dog and contacted the owners. The owners brought the dog inside.

•Ward Park Road, loud music - A complainant stated that a loud party was at a residence in the neighborhood. Deputies located the residence and advised the subjects.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious vehicle - An employee at a gas station/convenience store stated that a suspicious van was parked in the lot for a long period of time. The vehicle left prior to the arrival of patrol.

•Deerwood Lane, larceny - A complainant stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole cans of paint from his front porch.

•Baseline Road, deer struck - A complainant stated that a deer appeared to be injured from being struck by a vehicle.

•Center Terrace, suspicious person - Security at an apartment complex found a man sleeping on the porch. Deputies assisted the man back to his residence.

•Love Road, warrant arrest - Deputies arrested a 54-year-old woman from Grand Island on a bench warrant issued from the Town of Grand Island Court. Bruce was transported to the Erie County Holding Center.

•Fix Road, fireworks use - A complainant stated that a residence in the neighborhood was using fireworks. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate any subjects.

•Grand Island Boulevard, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a male subject was laying in front of his vehicle in an amusement park parking lot. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•Grand Island Boulevard, warrant arrest - Deputies arrested a 56-year-old woman from Grand Island on a bench warrant issued from the Town of Grand Island Court. The subject was transported to the Erie County Holding Center.

•Huth Road, animal loose - A complainant stated that a large dog was running loose in the area. Prior to the arrival of patrol, the dog returned to its residence.

•East River Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in a neighboring driveway and did not belong there. Deputies were able to locate the owner, who was at a party next door.

•South State Parkway, reckless operation - A complainant stated that a vehicle was traveling the wrong direction on South State Parkway. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

•East River Road, suspicious incident - A complainant stated that the driver of a red minivan threw a beer can out of his window and struck the complainant's vehicle. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the vehicle.

Sunday, Sept. 30

•Oakridge Drive, youth activity - A complainant stated that some youths were knocking on doors and running during the late hours of the night. Deputies checked the area but were unable to locate the youths.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Baseline Road, disorderly person - A complainant stated that two males were in his yard arguing during the late evening hours. Deputies located the male subjects. Their subsequent investigation led to the arrest of a 25-year-old man from Cortland for criminal mischief in the fourth degree (a class A misdemeanor), resisting arrest (a class A misdemeanor) and obstruction of governmental administration in the second degree (a class A misdemeanor). The man was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Bedell Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious van was parked in an apartment complex parking lot. Deputies checked but located no suspicious van.

Monday, Oct. 1

•Love Road, larceny - An employee at a gas station stated that a subject drove off without paying for gasoline. The subject returned to the gas station and paid for the fuel.

•East River Road, animal bite - A complainant stated that she was bitten by a dog on East River Road. The dog control officer was notified.

•Whitehaven Road, traffic control device - Deputies responded to a report of a traffic signal at Whitehaven Road and Baseline Road flashing red in all directions. The Grand Island Highway Department was notified.

Tuesday, Oct. 2

•Whitehaven Road, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

•Staley Road, larcenies - Several neighbors stated that, sometime during the night, someone stole various items from their unlocked vehicles. An investigation into the matter is ongoing.

•Carl Road, youth activity - A complainant stated that several suspicious youths were hanging out at the Carl Road playground. Deputies located the subjects and advised them. The subjects left without incident. No damage was observed.

•Grand Island Boulevard, property-damage-only accident - Deputies responded to a report of a two-car motor vehicle accident. No injuries were reported.

Wednesday, Oct. 3

•Love Road, loud music - A complainant stated that loud music was coming from a pizzeria late at night. Deputies advised the employees.

•Fix Road, suspicious vehicle - A complainant stated that a suspicious vehicle was parked in the street and a few subjects were seen going to and from the vehicle. Deputies located the vehicle in question but observed no subjects. The vehicle was ticketed and towed for parking violations.

•Fix Road, narcotics - A complainant stated that he found a bag of marijuana and an unidentified narcotic in his driveway. The drugs were turned over to patrol for destruction.

•Baseline Road, pistol permit investigation - Deputies conducted a background check of an individual who applied for a pistol permit.

•Bedell Road, suspicious person - A complainant stated that a suspicious male was walking around the inside of a storage yard. Deputies located the male and advised him.

Thursday, Oct. 4

•East Park Road, welfare check - Deputies responded to a report of a 911 hang up call on East Park Road. Deputies determined the call to be accidental.

•Grand Island Boulevard, possession of marijuana - Following an investigation of a suspicious person complaint, deputies arrested a juvenile offender for unlawful possession of marijuana. The juvenile offender was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

Friday, Oct. 5

•Stony Point Road, traffic arrest - Following a traffic stop, deputies arrested a 32-year-old woman for aggravated unlicensed operation third degree after a Department of Motor Vehicle check showed her license was currently suspended. The woman was issued an appearance ticket returnable to the Town of Grand Island Court.

•Bedell Road, refer to patrol - A complainant stated that a large crane was operating on Bedell Road in front of Veterans Park and making a lot of noise. The complainant was advised that the crane was making improvements to the road.
