Best-selling author Nicholas Sparks at Seneca Niagara Casino on Dec. 1

One of America's best-selling authors in recent history, Nicholas Sparks will make a special appearance at Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel in Niagara Falls on Saturday, Dec. 1. The author of modern classics such as "The Notebook," "Message in a Bottle" and "Dear John" will provide a free public book-signing in the hotel lobby from 2 to 3:30 p.m., followed by a lecture and question-and-answer session in the intimate, 440-seat Bear's Den Showroom at 5 p.m.

Tickets for the event inside the Bear's Den Showroom start at $40 and go on sale at noon on Monday, Oct. 15, at all Seneca Casino box offices,www.Ticketmaster.com, all Ticketmaster locations and by phone at 800-745-3000. The venue provides comfortable, plush, stadium-style seating on three sides, with no seat further than 35 feet from the stage.

Books will be available for purchase at the hotel lobby for the public signing. Sparks' appearance later in the afternoon at the Bear's Den Showroom marks the first time an author is headlining an event inside the venue, which typically hosts music and comedy acts.

With 17 novels to his credit including "The Notebook," "Message in a Bottle," "Dear John," "The Lucky One," "Safe Haven" and, most recently, "The Best of Me," Sparks is one of the world's most popular writers. He is a No. 1 New York Times best-seller and author has sold more than 80 million copies of his novels - which have been translated into more than 45 different languages. To date, the seven films adapted from his novels have grossed nearly three-quarters of a billion dollars - making Sparks one of the most distinguished and valuable brands in Hollywood. More films are on the way: "The Best of Me" is scheduled for production early next year, and "Safe Haven," starring Josh Duhamel, will be released Feb. 8, 2013.

Sparks is also active in numerous philanthropic efforts, including the Nicholas Sparks Foundation, which provides scholarships for deserving children around the country and has donated more than $10 million to local and national charities in its six years of existence. In Sparks' hometown of New Bern, N.C., he also founded a Christian college-preparatory school called The Epiphany School of Global Studies, which includes grades 3 through 12. He further founded the creative writing program at Notre Dame, which provides scholarships, internships and fellowships annually. Sparks is a member of the USA Track and Field Foundation board of directors, and, while coaching high school track and field during the past five years, has helped nearly 200 athletes from low-income families receive scholarships to attend college. He has been married for 23 years and has five children.

Other upcoming entertainment at the Bear's Den Showroom at Seneca Niagara Casino & Hotel includes an unplugged tour by reggae legends Toots and the Maytals on Nov. 2; a performance by Dennis Tufano, the original voice of The Buckinghams, on Nov. 10; influential guitarist and songwriter John Hiatt (billed as JOHN HIATT & the Combo) on Nov. 17; 1960s psychedelic rock group The Grass Roots on Nov. 24; Canadian rock musician David Wilcox on Dec. 30; and special New Year's Eve performances at 8 and 11 p.m. by Chuck Negron, formerly of Three Dog Night.
