This year's fire prevention and life safety theme is "Have Two Ways Out" when you are faced with a fire emergency at home, work or school. This message will be given to Grand Island elementary school students by firefighter teams during the week of Oct. 8 through 12, according to Assistant Chief Mark Sadkowski of the Grand Island Fire Co.

As program coordinator, he has also arranged for many fire and police agencies to contribute their equipment and operational expertise during the Fire Prevention Open House at fire headquarters, 2275 Baseline Road, from 5 to 8 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 12.

The ever popular "Ride to School in a Fire Truck" drawing will also be repeated this year, with winners chosen from St. Stephen School, and Huth Road, Kaegebein, and Sidway elementary schools. In addition, the GIFC Ladies Auxiliary will conduct its hot dog/hamburger cookout, as well as a special basket raffle.
