Niagara County Legislature Majority Leader Rick Updegrove, R-Lockport, issued the following statement regarding misinformation circulating regarding the county's decision to lease a humidity and HVAC-controlled records storage facility that complies with stringent state laws and regulations for records management:

"I'm disappointed in the distortion by some of the county's decision to protect irreplaceable records, such as real estate transactions, birth certificates, adoption records, and murder investigation files at a highly-specialized facility in eastern Niagara County. The county government is committed to making the best decisions possible to protect our taxpayers. That Minority Leader (Dennis) Virtuoso is attacking this decision, however, is particularly troubling. Two years ago, Dennis Virtuoso led the charge demanding that Niagara County site the NCCC Culinary Institute in downtown Niagara Falls, and not even consider sites outside that area. But last night, when the question was siting a records management facility at a highly-specialized facility in eastern Niagara County, Dennis Virtuoso and his cronies attacked the selection process as somehow improper—even though the county fully complied with state law and its own policies. It's becoming tiresome: when Niagara Falls benefits, Dennis Virtuoso will step over any semblance of a fair, open process. But when the optimum site lies within eastern Niagara County, Dennis Virtuoso tries to scuttle progress."
