As part of National Chess Month, the Carrousel Museum and the Archangel 8 Chess Academy are proud to host the second annual "Carrousel Chess Classic" on Saturday, Oct. 27. The tournament will follow United States Chess Federation rules and is open to any chess player in grades K through 12, as long as they have sufficient playing ability to recognize check and checkmate.

The tournament, which runs from noon to 4 p.m., will feature three rounds of no-elimination chess; a unique all-girls competition; and an awards ceremony with trophies to recognize top competitors in the various categories.

There is a $10 entry fee to participate in the tournament; admission to the museum is included in this fee. Registration and pre-payment are required by Friday, Oct. 26. To register, email [email protected] with name, grade, school, telephone and USCF number of participant. Spectators accompanying a tournament participant receive reduced admission to the event and the museum for only $3, and do not need to register in advance. Players must bring chess set, board and digital chess clock, and report by 11:30 a.m. the day of the tournament. (A limited number of chess sets are available for use with advance notice).

The Herschell Carrousel Factory Museum is housed in the historic Allan Herschell Company Factory building at 180 Thompson St., North Tonawanda. For directions and further information about special events, programs or group tours, visit www.carrouselmuseum.org, call 716-693-1885 or email [email protected].
