Lewiston Public Library October programs, events and activities

The Lewiston Public Library, 305 S. Eighth St., in the Village of Lewiston, announces the following programs, events and activities for the month of October.

Special Events

•The Mason Winfield book signing and village Haunted History Ghost Walk will take place Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 5:30 p.m. The Lewiston Public Library introduces Mason Winfield's new book, "The Paranormal Almanac," with a book signing by the author. Following the book signing, the public is invited to attend a classic village Haunted History Ghost Walk of Lewiston which will begin at The Courtyard at 476 Center St., at 7 p.m. For further information, email Michelle at [email protected].

•A "Halloween Spooktacular" will take place on Tuesday, Oct. 30, at 6 p.m. Come dressed in your favorite costume, play games, make crafts, and listen to some Halloween stories.

Clubs and More

•The Lewiston Library board of trustees will meet on Monday, Oct. 1, at 5 p.m.

•The Lewiston Book Club will hold its next meeting on Tuesday, Oct. 2, at 1:30 p.m. For further information, contact Anita Mallimo at 716-754-7714.

•The Lewiston Writers' Group will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 2, and Monday, Oct. 15 and 29, from 5 to 8 p.m. at the Lewiston Library. For more information, visit www.lewistonwritersgroup.com.

•The Friends of the Library will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m.

•The Dead Beats Society will meet Tuesday, Oct. 9, at 6 p.m. in the Local History Room.

•Personal instructional genealogy appointments may be made on Wednesdays from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Call the library, 716-754-4720, to arrange an appointment or email Michelle Kratts at [email protected].

•A new program, "How to Grow Your Family Tree," will debut on Tuesday, Oct. 16, at 6 p.m. Learn how to use the genealogical resources available at the Lewiston Public Library. For further information, contact Michelle at [email protected].

•Moms Book Chat, a book discussion group for moms, will meet on Thursday, Oct. 25, at 7 p.m. Discussed will be "I am Legend," by Richard Matheson.

•The Knitting Club meets every Friday from 1 to 3 p.m. No registration is required and knitters of all skill levels are welcome. For more information, contact Ellen Comerford at 716-754-4144.

Story Times

•Tail Waggin' Tutors - there are still appointments available for your child to read to one of the library's special Tail Waggin' Tutor dogs. For further information, contact Ann at [email protected].

•Alphabet Soup, for ages 3 to 5, meets Mondays, Oct. 1, 15 and 22 at 10:30 a.m.

•Lewiston Lapsit, for ages birth to 23 months, meets Wednesdays, Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 24 at 10 a.m.

•Toddler Time, for ages 2 to 3, meets Wednesdays, Oct. 3, 10, 17 and 24 at 10:30 a.m.

•Story Time with Mrs. Leardini, for all ages, meets Thursdays, Oct. 4, 11, 18 and 25 at 10:30 a.m.

The library will be closed on Monday, Oct. 8, in observance of Columbus Day.

Library hours: Monday-Tuesday 10 a.m. to 8 p.m.; Wednesday-Thursday 10 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Friday, noon to 5 p.m.; and Saturday, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
