The 2012 edition of the World Pumpkin Weigh-Off begins at 10 a.m. Sunday at the Great Pumpkin Farm, 11199 Main St., in Clarence.
Owner Kelly Schultz is hoping one of this year's entries will set a world record. Last year's winner tipped the scales at more than 1,600 pounds. This year, a pumpkin weighing more than 2,000 pounds could be worth $20,000.
This weekend, Sept. 29 and 30, also includes the "The Marvelous Mutts," a dog sport and comedy show. Upcoming events include Pumpkin Farm Olympics, Oct. 6-8; the Trebuchet pumpkin-tossing contest, Oct. 13-14; and World Class Pumpkin Pie Eating, Oct. 20-21.
Hours are 10 a.m. to dusk daily, with a special admission price of $5 during weekend celebrations. Discount tickets are available at Wegmans. For more information, go to www.GreatPumpkinFarm.com.
