It was another beautiful summer evening, Thursday, Aug. 16, when four civic groups met at Five Senses Park on Ward Road to enjoy Wheatfield Lions Club's annual steak roast.

Members of the Niagara County Central Rotary, Niagara-Wheatfield Kiwanis, Wheatfield Business Association and the Lions gathered under the pavilion to enjoy a mouth watering dinner consisting of fresh sweet corn, baked potato, peppers and onions, beer, wine, pop and the main ingredient - the juicy steak.

Each diner was in charge of grilling his own steak over one of two large, hot grills. This provided the joking, bantering, camaraderie and just great fun between the members of the groups in attendance.

A magician was in the gazebo entertaining kids and adults.

After dinner, Joe DeMarco, founder and pilot of Wings - Flights of Hope, presented a moving video highlighting the ambition of Wings. Wings - Flights of Hope provides free flights for medical patients and troops. Wings pilots are volunteers that simply love to help others through their love of flying; they fly their own plane and pay for all cost themselves.
