Shortly after 3 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 10, Grand Island Fire Co. rescue personnel responded to a motor vehicle accident involving a tractor-trailer and passenger vehicle at the intersection of the Beaver Island South State Parkway and Bush Road.
According to the Erie County Sheriff's Office, 24-year-old Brandon Adcock of Suffolk, Va., was traveling westbound on Bush Road when he failed to yield the right of way at a stop sign and struck the side a northbound tractor-trailer.
GIFC Fire Chief Kevin Koch reported that Adcock was pinned in the wreckage of the 2003 Toyota Four Runner he was driving and had to be extricated from the vehicle using "Jaws of Life" equipment. He was treated by GIFC medics for traumatic injuries and transported to Erie County Medical Center by MercyFlight. Three other occupants, 25-year-old Brett Adcock of Suffolk, Va., 25-year-old Jeremy Selan of Charlotte, N.C., and 22-year-old Brittany Munden of Chesapeake, Va., had escaped from the damaged vehicle prior to the arrival of GIFC responders. They were stabilized and transported to ECMC for precautionary follow-up. The driver of the semi-trailer, 41-year-old Steven M. Hulsizer of Niagara Falls, claimed no injuries.
All GIFC units returned in service by 3:57 p.m., when the scene was turned over to the Erie County Sheriff's Office. The ECSO Accident Investigation Unit continues the investigation and charges may be pending.
