Hands-on art activities and live performances for children

Press release

Summer is the perfect time to get "craft-y" with the kids. Dive into fun free art activities that the whole family will love at Artpark's "Free Family Saturdays" July 7 through 28 (noon to 4 p.m.) in the Outdoor Amphitheater area.

Families can visit these creatively themed workshop stations at their leisure:

•July 7 "Trash Art Treasures": Turn unwanted items into one-of-a-kind works of art.

•July 14 "Rev-art-lution": Splatter with revolving motors and bring change with a wearable statement.

•July 21 "Outdoor Art": Find out what you can make with supplies from your own backyard.

•July 28 "Art Slam Café": Make your own artistic eats and experience the "word room."

Niagara University Repertory Theatre will perform each week at 1 and 3 p.m.

A variety of "make and take" workshops are available at each installment of "Family Saturdays" - no matter the theme. Other imagination stations include "The Paint Space," "Costume Closet," "Sand Box," "Face Painting" and "Pottery Wheel." (Note: Children must be at least 4 feet tall to throw pottery on the wheel. Hand building and other clay molding tools are available for children under 4 feet.)

There is no parking fee for "Free Family Saturdays" and families are encouraged to picnic in the park at unique, artist-created picnic tables (no on-site concessions will be available for purchase, but restroom facilities will be open).

Artpark's upper park can be accessed via the Portage Road entrance (walk down the red brick road) or through the South Fourth Street entrance nearest the Mainstage Theater (walk up the red brick road).

For large groups, call Art Programs Director Tanis Winslow in advance at 716-754-9000, ext. 105.
