Press release

Artpark's second annual "Fairy House Festival" is the perfect day for families to get together and get creative. Returning on June 9 and 10, from noon until 5 p.m. each day, the "Fairy House Festival" is an event filled with art activities; hundreds of fairy houses locally designed by schools, Scout troops and community youth groups; special dance performances; artist-created exhibits; storytelling; and magical surprises.

Tickets are $5 in advance ($6 day of festival) and are on sale now.

This family-friendly outdoor festival features the "Fairy House Tour" of hundreds of small house constructions made from natural materials. Fairy houses are small structures built from sticks, dry grasses, leaves, pinecones, shells, and other naturally found materials.

Families and visitors can enjoy strolling the scenic gardens and woods at Artpark to view the small fairy houses and to create their own fairy house dwellings to leave or take home. The simple challenge of creating a fairy house connects children with nature and encourages respect for the environment.

Children's book author Tracy Kane will return and unveil new stories about nature and fairy houses. New York State Parks will present artifacts and information about the woods, the Niagara River, and this region's natural elements, and The Burchfield Penny Art Center will feature some clever hands-on challenges for children.

Artpark welcomes a new friend to this year's festival, as a unicorn will make an appearance during the weekend event.

The Fairy House Festival is sponsored by Elks Lodge No. 346 (Niagara Falls), and is made possible, in part, with funds from the Arts Niagara Decentralization Program, a regrant program of the New York. Sponsors include Gorge Travel, Sunrise Door & Woodworks, D'Avolio Olive Oils & Vinegars, Supermarket Liquors & Wines, Niagara Bulk Service Ltd., Lewiston Community Lions Club, Fine Antiques, Angel to Apple, Lewiston Web Solutions, Orion Limited, and Compu-Mail.

Artpark's "Fairy House Festival" takes place rain or shine in the lower park (South Fourth Street entrance). For more information, or for tickets, call 716-754-4375 or visit Artpark online at www.artpark.net.
