Tickets now on sale

Carol Calato, board chair of the Lewiston Jazz Festival, today announced that the organization will host its annual fundraiser, "Jazz & Pasta," on Sunday, April 29, at Water Street Landing, 115 S. Water St., Lewiston. The event will begin at 1 p.m. and continue through 7 p.m.

Chairpersons for the event are Deanna Alterio Brennen (president of the Niagara USA Chamber) and Melissa Morinello (marketing director, Niagara Tourism and Convention Corp.). According to Brennen, "The fourth annual event was held last spring with hundreds turning out to support the Jazz Festival. We are hoping for an encore performance."

The 2012 event will include jazz, pastas from area restaurants, a cash bar and a Chinese auction. Various local jazz musicians have offered their talents for the enjoyment of ticket holders. There will be performances by The Ron Corsaro Trio, Christian Campos Bossa Nova, My Cousin Tone', Caputi and Co. featuring Ronnie Davis, the Alfie Allesandro Trio and the Bobby Militello Quartet

Calato added, "While this premiere Lewiston Jazz Festival is free to the public, the cost to execute it exceeds $135,000. We are appealing to the community for help and support. This fundraiser really is a great value and helps us keep jazz alive and free in Western New York."

Tickets are $20 each and are available at the following locations:

Tickets can also be purchased at the door. For more information, call Brennen at 432-7056.

The Historic Lewiston Jazz Festival is a not-for-profit corporation that relies on sponsorships and private sector donations for support. The 2012 Jazz Festival is scheduled for Aug. 24 and 25. It is hosted by the Town and Village of Lewiston and the Lewiston Jazz Festival Inc. This event draws more than 40,000 people annually.

Lewiston Jazz Festival Executive Director Sandy Hays Mies noted that the board of directors is working hard to keep the Jazz Festival alive and free.

"With cuts in state funding, we must generate revenue from those who support live jazz and who wish to see this event kept free to the public," she said. "As part of our fundraising strategy, we are seeking donations through our website at www.LewistonJazz.com or through contributions that can be mailed to the Lewiston Jazz Festival, P.O. Box 663, Lewiston, NY 14092."

Checks can be made payable to the Lewiston Jazz Festival. Contributions as low as $5 are being accepted. All contributions are tax deductible. For more information on donating or sponsorship opportunities, call 716-628-9583. Go online and see who donated.
