Grand Island's David Nolf, a talented, up-and-coming singer, will open the July 5 "Tuesday in the Park" concert at Artpark at 6:30 p.m. The headliner is 1980s pop-rock star Pat Benatar and her husband, Neil Giraldo.

Nolf is an ideal opening act in that, as he says, his music "is definitely the pop-rock genre."

His "radio-ready" songs, Nolf says, are "a mix of the Goo Goo Dolls, Matchbox Twenty, John Mayer - even some Dave Matthews."

The audience can look forward to "A backbeat where they can get up and dance around," Nolf says.

The singer acknowledges nabbing an opening spot at Artpark was especially difficult this summer, as many of the headliners are performing multiple sets or bringing their own warm-up act.

"This year was very scare," Nolf says. "I'm very thankful to Artpark."

In return, Nolf promises a set list including original songs and "cool covers."
