In an effort to reach as many families in the community as possible, regardless of their economic situation, the Kids Count After School Enrichment Program held at the First Presbyterian Church in Youngstown will lower its rates to $2 per child per day. The new rates will take effect on Jan. 3, 2011.

Kids Count is a non-religious program that nurtures the educational, physical, emotional and social growth and development of children in grades K-8 in the Lewiston-Porter School District. Bus service is available from Lew-Port, Stella Niagara and St. Peter's in the Village of Lewiston. The program runs Monday-Friday from 3-6 p.m.

The rate change was made possible when the operating budget of the church was approved to include a supplemental budget item. The church's donation, as well as anticipated corporate giving and fundraising efforts by the program's staff, will provide the necessary funding that will enable Kids Count to keep its rates low.

Site Supervisor Michelle Phelps said local businesses and service organizations will be solicited for their help.

"We hope the business community will recognize this as an opportunity to support a wonderful program by making a charitable donation," she said.

The program is licensed to take 20 children daily. Enrollment will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

For questions about Kids Count, to enroll a child, or to make a donation, contact Phelps or Kathy Schlaich, assistant site supervisor, at 745-7076.
