Looking for a fun way to spend a Saturday afternoon without spending a dime? Artpark's "Free Family Saturdays" offer a variety of hands-on art activities and special live performances that the whole family will love.
"Free Family Saturdays" take place July 10-31 from noon until 4 p.m. in Artpark's upper park. There is no parking fee and families are encouraged to picnic in the park at unique artist-created picnic tables (no on-site concessions will be available for purchase; restroom facilities will be open).
Families can visit these workshop stations at their leisure:
•July 10: "Everyday Art" Enjoy a creative spin on day-to-day art, including wearable art, graphic design and bookmaking.
"Family Saturday" featured performance by Shakespeare in Delaware Park at 2 p.m.
•July 17: "Art Influenced" Take a trip through history. Families can have fun interpreting famous works of art.
"Family Saturday" featured performance by the Niagara Experience Players at 2 p.m.
•July 24: "Creative Chromatic" Can't wait to color? These workshops are sure to satisfy with paintings that move and hues that delight.
"Family Saturday" featured performance by Carlton the Mime and his Clown Magic Show at 2 p.m.
•July 31: "Cirque Du Art" Bust out the bizarre with visual art, surrealist shapes and performance art.
"Family Saturday" featured performance by Artpark's "Rock Camp" at 2 p.m.
A variety of "Make and Take" workshops are available at every installment of "Family Saturdays" - no matter the theme. These other imagination stations include, "The Paint Space," costume closet, sand box, face painting and the pottery wheel. Note: children must be 4 feet or taller to throw pottery on the wheel. Hand-building and other clay molding tools are available for children under 4 feet.
