The arrival of fall signals the start of Gliding Stars, an adaptive ice-skating program for people with disabilities.

In preparation for the 2022-23 skating season, Executive Director Cristie Mokhiber announced the program opening dates for the Hamburg Ice Arena and Hyde Park Ice Pavilion in Niagara Falls. Skater registration and fitting will take place from 1-3 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 24, at Hamburg Ice Arena, and from 3-5 p.m. Sunday, Sept. 25, at Hyde Park Ice Pavilion. Skating sessions at the Hamburg rink are from 1-3 p.m. Saturdays, and from 4:30-6 p.m. Sundays at Hyde Park.

A press release noted, “Gliding Stars enables people of all ages, from 18 months to senior citizens, who have disabilities, to increase their personal potential by developing ice skating skills in a regular program of instruction and practice in their own communities. The instructional program brings people with and without disabilities together in a team-oriented, helping environment. The instructional and motivational program culminates with an end-of-the season performance in March at the Northtown Center.

“Gliding Stars is always looking for volunteers of all skating levels during both of our weekly sessions. For more information regarding this season, rink schedules and how to become involved in the Gliding Stars Western New York Chapter, visit www.glidingstars.org/wny.html or call 716-608-8345.
