Organizations serving people of color are encouraged to apply by Aug. 31

The Communities of Giving Legacy Initiative (CGLI), an initiative that aims to expand access to philanthropy in communities of color, has announced a grant opportunity under its Emerging Philanthropists of Color (EPC) initiative. EPC members will award two $2,500 grants to 501(c)(3) nonprofit organizations that are located in Buffalo, Lackawanna or Niagara Falls and serving people of color.

Interested nonprofits should detail a proposed project in the application that supports and/or promotes diversity and focuses on one or more of the following:

√ Improve educational achievement and workforce readiness for residents living in low-income households;

√ Increases racial/ethnic equity;

√ Protect and restore significant environmental resources and promote equitable access; and

√ Strengthens the region as a center for architecture, arts and culture.

Applications are due by 4 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 31, and must be submitted online at www.epcgrant.org.

The CGLI, a fund and initiative of the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, was created to increase philanthropy within and for Western New York communities of color. It “works to cultivate positive change in the lives of trailblazing youth of color. The CGLI’s EPC initiative was designed for young professionals of color who are building their networks while finding ways to give back together and make an impact. Members work to spark a curiosity to learn about giving – personally and collectively – within communities of color at any age.”

A press release further explained, “EPC membership empowers young professionals on a path to wealth building that will allow them to make in an impact now and in the future. Yearly contributions from each member are pooled together to provide annual grants to organizations serving communities of color. The grant beneficiaries will be recognized at the CGLI’s annual signature event, the Pay It Forward Awards, in November.”
