Western New Yorkers encouraged to submit public comments

Congressman Brian Higgins is calling on the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs to act swiftly, based on community feedback, to improve safety at the entrance to the Western New York National Cemetery.

Following traffic accidents, the VA conducted a Western New York National Cemetery Traffic Analysis and Safety Study. A summary of the study is available online and the full report can be found here.

In remarks on the House floor, Higgins said, in part, “Early on, there were warnings that the gateway to the cemetery posed traffic hazards. Since then, automobile accidents have occurred, some ending in fatalities. We are calling on the VA to listen to the voices of the community and to respond swiftly with a solution. Action is necessary to protect the grieving families of fallen Western New York heroes.”

The VA is collecting public comments through the close of business Thursday, May 26. Comments can be submitted via email to [email protected] or online at WNYNC National Cemetery Comments and Concerns (arcgis.com).

The Western New York National cemetery is one of 155 VA operated cemeteries in the U.S. and one of eight in New York. The site was designed to meet the needs of over 98,000 Western New York veterans and their families. For more information, visit https://www.cem.va.gov/cems/nchp/WesternNewYork.asp.
