Paddle boats will officially launch Saturday, May 15

The “FLOtilla” of “FLOATmingos” on Hoyt Lake continues to grow with the arrival of additional bright pink flamingo paddle boats, making it a true “Flam-bouyance” with nine total floats. Available for rent through Hoyt Lake Rowboats, the “FLOATmingos” offer summer fun for the whole family.

“Our partnership with the Buffalo Maritime Center and Hoyt Lake Rowboats is appreciated in offering this exciting community amenity as a fun boating option this summer,” said Stephanie Crockatt, executive director of the Buffalo Olmsted Parks Conservancy. “Park use has increased by 40% and, as we embark on a new park season, we strive to provide you, and your friends and family, with healthy green spaces to relax, rejuvenate and reenergize. An activity such as this is a tribute to the spirit of Buffalo and our cooperative resilience.”

Joe Koessler, president of the Buffalo Maritime Center board of trustees, said, “Boating in Hoyt Lake is a time-honored tradition. Our partnership with the conservancy aligns with the Maritime Center’s mission of promoting knowledge and appreciation of our community’s maritime heritage, and that includes our fancy flock of ‘FLOATmingo’ paddle boats. We hope everyone in the community comes to Hoyt Lake to experience beautiful water views of Olmsted’s Delaware Park.”

Rowboat and “FLOATmingo” rentals are available daily from noon to 8 p.m., weather-depending. Rental rates are $10 for 30 minutes for rowboats and $15 for 30 minutes for the “FLOATmingo” paddle boat. Reservations are highly recommended and can be made on the Buffalo Maritime Center website: http://buffalomaritimecenter.org/hoyt-lake-boat-rentals/.
