Obituary: Jonathan James Perez

Jonathan Perez, 56, died at home in Houston on Feb. 9, 2021, after a brief illness.

Born in Niagara Falls, he was raised in Youngstown, graduating from the Park School in Buffalo in 1982, and later receiving a degree in political science at Fredonia State College.

He began a career in horticulture in Texas, working as a nursery manager, regional sales manager, and as a buyer for a number of companies, including Wolfe Nurseries in Dallas; Lonestar Nurseries and Colorspot in San Antonio; Ball Horticultural in Charlotte, North Carolina; Green Valley Growers, Shemin and SiteOne in Houston. He was fulfilling his dream job as vice president of sales at Magnolia Gardens Nursery in Houston at the time of his death.

Jon was intelligent, kind and generous, and was loved and respected by his family, many friends, co-workers and clients.

He is survived by his wife, Valerie; his son, Benjamin; his mother, Norah; his brothers, Patrick and Matthew; his niece, Tiffany Ferguson; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.

Jon will be interred later this summer at Oakland Rural Cemetery in Youngstown, alongside his father, Louis, who predeceased him.
