Good genes and a young mind are Naomi Dice’s secret to longevity. The centenarian recently celebrated her milestone birthday at senior living community Heritage Manor of Lockport.

A Boston native, Naomi graduated from Colby College in Maine in 1946. A fourth-grade teacher at John E. Pound Elementary School in Lockport for 20 years, she and her husband, Howard, had one son and one grandchild. They were married for 25 years before Howard passed away.

Naomi said she’s not surprised to have lived to 100. Her father survived the 1918 influenza outbreak, surviving even though he did come down with the illness.

A resident at Heritage Manor of Lockport for nine years, Naomi’s hobbies are reading and knitting. Residents and staff celebrated her milestone birthday with cupcakes and candy bars with specially made wrappers, and Naomi received balloons, cards and many well wishes.
