AAA Western and Central New York has been approved to offer classroom instruction for defensive driving once again. Classes will resume effective Oct. 29. The defensive driving courses will be offered at Amherst, Penfield and Liverpool AAA locations.

Drivers can sharpen their driving skills and qualify for up to 10% off their auto insurance with the AAA defensive driving course, which is available to AAA members and nonmembers. The program is New York Department of Motor Vehicles-approved and conveniently offered in the classroom once again. Online classes, which can be paused and resumed, allow drivers to go at their own speed and are still available, as well.

Drivers learn tips and techniques to reduce the risk through the proper management of visibility, time and space, driver and passenger safety and how to handle emergencies. Class certification can lower portions of auto insurance by up to 10% for three years and can take up to four points off a driving record for moving violations within the past 18 months.

In-person classroom instruction will follow CDC and New York state safety guidelines. Participants must wear a face covering at all times and bring a pen to class. Drivers who are interested in the program can call 1-800-836-2582 to register.

The course costs are as follows: in-person classes are $42 for AAA members ($49 for nonmembers) and will be offered most Saturdays and some additional days at the above locations. Online classes are $29.95 for members ($37.95 for nonmembers).

AAA offers many options for driver training, including in-car driving lessons and driver evaluations. Drivers who need more information can go to www.AAA.com/DriverTraining.
