Town of Lewiston Supervisor Steve Broderick, Village of Lewiston Mayor Anne Welch and Lewiston Bicentennial Chairperson Leandra Collesano (center) unveiled the official Lewiston Bicentennial Logo at the historic Frontier House on Friday.

The logo design features the crown jewel of Lewiston, the Frontier House, which was known as the finest hotel in America, West of Albany, in the early 1800s. The logo was designed by Lewiston artist Maureen Kellick, who worked with the Bicentennial Committee to create a unique and recognizable logo for the Lewiston bicentennial celebration.

“We are so excited to unveil the bicentennial logo to our community,” Collesano said. “A huge thank you to Maureen Kellick for designing this eye-catching image. Her hard work on this project is truly appreciated.”

The committee is planning a four-day bicentennial celebration for the weekend of July 1-4, 2022.

The event was originally planned for 2023 based on the Town of Lewiston seal and some unofficial documents.

“We knew that on April 17, 1822, the New York Legislature chartered the Village of Lewiston,” Collesano said. “From the town seal, we assumed the town followed suit in 1823. After lengthy research, it was discovered that towns do not incorporate like villages. Back on Feb. 27, 1818, the Town of Lewiston subdivided from Cambria. We should have celebrated our bicentennial back in 2018, but unfortunately, we discovered this after the fact. Instead, we decided to use the Village of Lewiston’s incorporation date to plan our 200th birthday celebration.”

The bicentennial committee will begin reaching out to local businesses, organizations and individuals in the town to secure involvement from the entire community. The celebration will focus on the more than 200 years of history in the town. There will be many family events for all to enjoy during the long holiday weekend.

“We anticipate July 4th weekend in 2022 will consist of family reunions, alumni celebrations and former residents coming back home,” Collesano said. “It will be a once-in-a-lifetime event for the entire community to come together and celebrate our 200th birthday.”
