Tops Friendly Markets recently presented Auburn resident Paul K. and David D. of Niagara Falls with a $20,000 shopping spree and $5,000 in groceries for a year prizes, respectively, as part of the Monopoly “Rip It and Win It” contest.

Paul received the good news from his 6-year old daughter who loves to open the tickets.

“She knew it was a winner and was excited, but wasn’t sure what the $20,000 really meant,” he said. “I have played for a long time and I think the biggest prize I’d previously won was dryer sheets, so this evens out very nicely.”

He added, “We then called everyone I could think of to share the good news.

While he wasn’t sure who would be staffing the grill or what they’ll do with entire $20,000, he said he believes a really nice Father’s Day cookout is in their future.

The $5,000 top prize for the Tops Monopoly online game was awarded to David D. of Niagara Falls.

“I was at work when my wife entered the tickets online. She called me and I thought she was joking,” he said. “We feel blessed to have won this prize and it will help soften the blow of the college tuition bill that just came in for my son.”

David added, “We are also really hoping to fill the freezer. My wife is a coupon queen, so we will make this go a long way.”

When asked what the biggest prize he’d ever received before, David said, “I came in second place in a race when I was in second grade, so this truly is a big deal.”

Shoppers instantly won $20,000 shopping sprees, Tops gift cards, gas points, free food and more.

A press release said, “Thanks to many key product vendor sponsors, these savings were above and beyond the everyday great values and we’re excited to pass these offers along to customers. Tops Monopoly ‘Rip It and Win It’ allowed customers to play every time they checked-out at a Tops Friendly Markets location using their Tops BonusPlus card. Each purchase transaction received one game ticket and customers also received a game ticket for each participating vendor product purchased.”
