Girl Scouts launches new series of over 40 outdoor adventures for girls to live 'Camp Life Unplugged'

Girl Scouts of Western New York summer camp registration is open for all girls in grades K-12th. Summer camp is a way for girls to explore leadership, build skills and develop an appreciation for nature. Whether for a day, a week, or longer, Girl Scout camp gives girls an opportunity to grow, explore and have fun in an all-girl environment under the guidance of trained adults.

Through funding by the United Way, girls can live #CampLifeUnplugged at Girl Scout day and resident camps that offer a variety of over 40 outdoor activities such as eco-learning with Dinosaur Discoveries, space science with Galaxy Quests, learning about bugs with Bug’s Life, ropes courses, hiking, rock climbing, white water rafting, horseback riding, scuba diving, robotics, introductory wilderness survival, archery/bow-crafting, traditional fire-making/fire safety, while earning badges such as Eco Trekker, Leave No Trace and Outdoor Adventurer.

Girl Scouts’ summer camp experience gives girls the opportunity to learn from outdoor experts, challenge themselves, work as a team, and become empowered to reach their full potential, over a week packed with adventure. Camp is a place for girls to meet and make new friends, grow, become independent, explore skills, and share the joys of summer with others.

GSWNY offers day camp at Camp Piperwood in Fairport, spring break camp at Windy Meadows in Lockport, resident camp at Camp Seven Hills in Holland, and Camp Timbercrest in Randolph, with transportation for certain programs.

Girl Scout Research Institute studies show that, when girls participate in Girl Scout outdoor programming, they become more interested in the outdoors, feel more confident of their abilities in the outdoors, are more committed to environmental stewardship, and develop stronger outdoor competence.

All girls in grades kindergarten through 12 are invited to Girl Scout camp. Girls do not need to be currently registered in Girl Scouts to attend.

For busy parents, before and after care is an option and transportation is available for day camp. GSWNY also offers financial aid opportunities.
