On the evening of Tuesday, Dec. 10, the idea of compassionate public policy will be explored at a mini-conference at Niagara Falls’ City Council Chambers, 745 Main St. All members of the community are welcome to this free event, which will include refreshments and will be held from 6-8 p.m.

A press release said, “Compassion is critical to public policy, as it ensures all members of a society are given a chance to thrive. The event will provide the community an opportunity to hear from Sam Magavern, senior policy fellow at Partnership for the Public Good, regarding efforts to make public policy more compassionate. Attendees will then join with others to envision what compassionate public policy may look like.”

"A good public policy is one that efficiently enacts our shared values,” Magavern said. “There is no value as widely shared or as important as compassion. So compassionate public policy should not be something unusual; it should be what we strive for every day in making decisions."

Presented by the Niagara County Coalition for Services to the Homeless to continue the momentum of its annual conference, the Compassionate Niagara committee is hosting a series of mini-conferences throughout the year to focus in on how different sectors can work together to make the community a compassionate one. This represents the final of seven events.

Sponsors for the event include Calspan, Grigg Lewis Foundation, Confer Plastics, Covanta, Fidelis Care, Niagara Falls City School District, Kane Construction, East Hill Foundation, Community Missions, Phi Delta Kappa Chapter 0047, Catholic Health – Mount St. Mary’s, the Homeless Alliance of WNY (HAWNY), Kalos Health, Niagara Falls Empire State Poverty Reduction Initiative (ESPRI) and Hohl Industrial.
