Ortt honors Ovarian Cancer Project

New York State Sen. Rob Ortt on Thursday recognized the Western New York Ovarian Cancer Project “for its outstanding efforts in raising awareness of the danger that ovarian cancer presents the women of New York.”

Each year, 22,000 individuals are diagnosed with ovarian cancer, and over 14,000 lose their lives. While it is only the 11th most common cancer among women, ovarian cancer is the fifth-leading cause of cancer death among women. Less than 50% of the women diagnosed with ovarian cancer live five years beyond their diagnosis.

“Simply by raising awareness of the devastating impact that this disease has on women, the advocates at the Western New York Ovarian Cancer Project are responsible for saving countless lives each year,” Ortt said. “While not all of us are able to help find a medical cure to this disease, everyone can help conquer this disease by using their voice to call attention and raise awareness. I am proud to recognize the great work of the Western New York Ovarian Cancer Project and look forward to continuing our teamwork in this battle against ovarian cancer.”
