'Thursdays on the Water' making summer return to NT

The weather is finally beginning to make a turn for the best, and with that means another season of "Thursdays on the Water" in North Tonawanda.

Friday afternoon, North Tonawanda Mayor Arthur Pappas, promoter Jesse Gooch, city officials and sponsors gathered at Gratwick Riverside Park to announce the return of the third annual concert series.

In a release, Pappas said, “Gratwick Riverside Park is a wonderful asset to the residents of North Tonawanda. Such a beautiful venue is perfect for an event like the 'Thursdays on the Water.' I certainly hope this event continues to be a great success and brings a great number of people to the river to enjoy a day of family fun throughout the summer.”

Pappas added, “We have ‘Thursdays on the Water’ ready to go again this year. Last year, it was a tremendous success and it was a great success, not only for our community, but the surrounding areas, and, of course, all the people who sponsored this event.”

Pappas also praised Gooch for his efforts and setting up what he called a tremendous concert lineup.

Gooch contributed additional details, including the participation of food and beverage vendors including: The Meeting Place, Solidays and Pizza Amoré, as well as a car show/ cruise night sponsored by “97 Rock,” all with local bands providing continuous live entertainment weekly.  Also to be featured is a Kidz Zone including a rock climbing wall and other games.  There will also be raffles and giveaways and a portion of the proceeds will benefit Veterans One-stop Center of WNY.  Parking is free, but donations are welcome to benefit Veterans One-stop.

The 2019 “Thursdays on the Water” free concert series begins June 20. Concerts run from 5-9 p.m. every Thursday through Aug. 29. There will be no shows on July 4 and 18 due to Independence Day and Canal Fest, respectively. 

The concert lineup is as follows:

•June 20, Out on the Tiles (Led Zeppelin cover band)

•June 27, Free Falling (Tom Petty cover band from Minnesota)

•July 11, Strictly Hip

•July 25, Nerds Gone Wild (Costume contest for show)

•Aug. 1, 90 West

•Aug. 8, Van Halen Tribute (Special opener is Last Call)

•Aug. 15, Carl Dixon

•Aug. 22, The A-List Band and the Beach Boys Party

•Aug. 29, That 80s Hair Band
