It took only 53 seconds for the Spicey Pickle’s taco-eating contest record to fall on Cinco de Mayo. Grand Island’s Colton Keen polished off three handhelds in less than a minute to out-eat six other competitors on Sunday.

Keen was a last-minute entrant. When asked what technique he employed, Keen simply stated, “I’m 350 pounds. I really didn’t need a strategy.”

For his efforts, Keen received a gift certificate … for more food.

Lewiston’s annual eating contest was governed by judge Jeff Lewis and timekeeper Bruce Sutherland.

The event was part of Spicey Pickle’s fifth-anniversary celebration. Owner Aaron Rotella also staged a piñata-smash for children, gave away free tacos, discounted burritos and served a special breakfast menu.

Spicey Pickle is located at 463 Center St.
