Buffalo Geological Society science event

Dinosaurs, fossils, minerals & nature

The Buffalo Geological Society and the Town of West Seneca are collaborating on a geological and natural science event in the new Town of West Seneca Community Center and the West Seneca Library at 1300 Union Road. The event will be held from 5-8 p.m. Friday, May 17, and from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday, May 18, with free admission and parking.

The Buffalo Geological Society will offer its famous mini-mine for children; a new mining operation; fluorescent mineral exhibit, fossils and minerals on display; a scavenger hunt with prizes for children; coloring sheets; and rock, mineral and fossil identification for anyone who would like to bring specimens to be identified. In addition, Past & Present Rock Shop and Museum, Jerry the Geologist, Burchfield Nature Center, Reinstein Woods, and Beaver Meadow will have interactive activities for children. Also offered will be dinosaur models, dinosaur specimens, a free fossil dig for children, exhibits on local fossils, and minerals including the New York State Fossil and the New York State Gem.

This is an educational program by the Buffalo Geological Society, Burchfield Nature Center and Beaver Meadow to provide information on the local geology, fossils, minerals, nature center activities, live animals from Beaver Meadow, and program information available from each organization. Professional geologists and experts will be available to answer questions. Fossils and minerals will be available for purchase.

This family event is open to the public and no pre-registration is required.
