The estimated annuity value of the jackpot in tonight's Mega Millions drawing was increased today to $970 million, making it the largest in the game's history and second-largest in U.S. lottery jackpot history.
The previous record jackpot in Mega Millions was a $656 million prize that was shared by winners from Kansas, Illinois and Maryland in March 2012.
To date, New York has sold 36 jackpot-winning Mega Millions tickets. Since 2002 sales of New York's Mega Millions tickets have generated more than $2.3 billion for aid to education.
Tickets for Friday's night's drawing can be purchased until 10:45 p.m. The live drawing will be televised at 11 p.m.
A Mega Millions prize of any amount may be claimed up to one year from the date of the drawing.
