National Grid, Niagara Falls Community Development and the Niagara Falls City School District are collaborating to bring a new, family-friendly event to the heart of Niagara Falls. From noon until 2 p.m. Tuesday, July 10, join these partners for a celebration of the 162nd birthday of Nikola Tesla, one of history's most brilliant, under-rated and eccentric inventors, at the Hyde Park Playground (next to 911 Robbins Drive).
"This is going to be a really special day for the community. National Grid is excited to partner with the City of Niagara Falls to celebrate Tesla, his accomplishments and what they meant to our region," said Dan Keating, manager of customer and community at National Grid.
"The district has a longstanding commitment to STEM education, and unusually talented art students and teachers, so this is right in line with our thinking and we are thrilled to join National Grid and the city in this celebration," said Mark Laurrie, superintendent of the Niagara Falls City School District.
"Nikola Tesla's S.T.E.A.M. Birthday Party" is party with a science, technology, engineering, arts and math twist, building on an effort to provide educational opportunities in city parks during the summer months. Youngsters can wire a battery-operated play dough light, have a hair-raising experience with the Power Vista's Van de Graaff generator, check out the Nickle City Reptiles mobile unit, the Titan Entertainment petting zoo and bounce house, get a custom balloon creation from Donuts D Clown, power up with fruits and veggies at the Cornell Cooperative Extension tent all while listening to the electric sounds of DJ P-Nasty.
"We are thankful to both National Grid and the New York State Health Foundation for supporting dynamic events for local kids in local parks and to the school district for the partnership," said Seth Piccirillo, director of Niagara Falls Community Development. "Hyde Park is in the center of our city, and we hope Tesla's birthday will become a fun and educational tradition."
