Girl Scout summer camp registration is now open for all girls in grades K-12. Summer camp is a great way for girls to explore leadership, build skills and develop a deep appreciation for nature. Whether for a day, a week, or longer, Girl Scout camp gives girls an opportunity to grow, explore, and have fun in an all-girl environment under the guidance of caring, trained adults.
Through funding by the United Way, Girl Scout Day, resident, and core & S.P.P. (specialty programs provided) camps offer girls a variety of activities and programs such as robotics, climbing, whitewater rafting, hiking, archery, horseback riding and more for individual growth and exploration. It is an ideal place for girls to meet and make new friends, learn more about their abilities, and share the joys of summer with others.
Girl Scouts of Western New York (GSWNY) has four camps:
  • Camp Timbercrest in Randolph
  • Camp Piperwood in Victor
  • Camp Windy Meadows in Lockport
  • Camp Seven Hills Goodyear Hills/Lakeside in Holland
The funding provided by the United Way to help girls explore the outdoors is vital, as studies show girls today are not spending nearly enough time outdoors. Technology and structured activities leave less time for girls to get outside and enjoy nature. But at Girl Scout summer camp, girls have plenty of opportunities to create their own outdoor adventures and develop a lifelong appreciation for nature and the out-of-doors - whether with their troop, at summer camp, or with friends and family.
Girl Scout Research Institute studies show that, when Girl Scouts get outside, they discover they can better solve problems and overcome challenges; develop leadership skills, build social bonds and are happier overall; and become team players and care more about protecting the environment. When girls spend quality time outdoors and increase their exposure to nature, they thrive physically, emotionally and intellectually.
Girl Scouts and the outdoors go together like a campfire and s'mores. From hiking tough trails to spending action-packed summers at camp, endless opportunities for girl-led outdoor adventures await every G.I.R.L. (Go-getter, Innovator, Risk-taker, Leader). All girls in grades kindergarten through 12 are invited to Girl Scout camp. Girls do not need to be registered in Girl Scouts to attend summer camp.
For busy parents, before- and aftercare is an option and transportation is available for day camp. GSWNY also offers financial aid opportunities. More information on GSWNY summer camp, including a list of all the available camp programs and details regarding the online or paper registration process, are available at www.gswny.org.
Girl Scouts of Western New York serves nearly 15,000 girls and 7,000 adult volunteers across the GSWNY jurisdiction, including Cattaraugus, Chautauqua, Erie, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Niagara, Orleans and Wyoming counties. The council's administrative service centers are located in Batavia, Buffalo, Jamestown, Lockport, Niagara Falls and Rochester.
