Veterans invited to free events, to have free meals, and take advantage of free services this weekend

NCCC to Hold Veterans Day Ceremony
Niagara County Community College will host its Veterans Day ceremony at 11 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 9, on the Sanborn campus at the Veterans Memorial Park, 3111 Saunders Settlement Road, Sanborn. The event is free and open to the public.
The annual ceremony will include opening remarks by NCCC Interim President William Murabito. The keynote speaker for this year's ceremony will be Maj. Joseph Pulvino, officer in charge of the Emergency Medical Team at the 865th Combat Support Hospital at the Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station.
Pulvino enlisted into the U.S. Army 91B Combat Medic program in January 1982. He was commissioned in the U.S. Army Nurse Corps as a first lieutenant. Pulvino has had several assignments throughout his military career including a staff nurse in the ICU at Brooks Army Medical Center at Fort Sam Houston, Texas, and chief nurse with the 1982nd FST to FOB Shank in Afghanistan.
U.S. Army veteran Collin O'Donnell, who is majoring in criminal justice at NCCC, will speak on behalf of NCCC veteran students. O'Donnell served in the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers as a combat engineer bridge crewmember from 2013-16.
Andrew LaPlante, a U.S. Army veteran and an NCCC liberal arts math and science major, will serve as master of ceremonies. Members of the Niagara Falls Air Base Honor Guard will also participate in the ceremony.
Refreshments will be served immediately after the ceremony in the Notar Administration Building lobby on the Sanborn campus.
Lew-Port Celebrates Veterans
The Lewiston-Porter Historical Society will host its annual Veterans Day dinner Thursday, Nov. 9, in the high school cafeteria.
Doors open at 4 p.m. and dinner will be served at 4:30 p.m. A basket action and door prizes will also be featured.
All veterans are invited to attend at no cost. They may also bring one guest at no charge as well. Additional guests are $5.

Veterans Day Lunch in Lewiston
Mount St. Mary's Hospital and Our Lady of Peace Nursing Care Residence will hold their annual Veterans Day lunch at the OLP Community Room starting at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Nov 10. Associates, residents and volunteers who are veterans will be honored
Mount St. Mary's Hospital is located at 5300 Military Road.
Ceremony in Tonawanda
At 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, Chapter 77 of Vietnam Veterans of America will hold a Veterans Day ceremony at the memorial completed barley a year ago. Located in Veterans Park in the City of Tonawanda, the ceremony will have brief words by Mayor Rick Davis of Tonawanda. The main speaker will be Paul S. Crews, interim director of WNY VA Healthcare System.
Vets, Military Members Earn Free Admission to Aquarium of Niagara This Weekend
In honor of Veterans Day, free admission will be offered to veterans and military members on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at the Aquarium of Niagara, 701 Whirlpool St. Additionally, a patriotic sea lion show will be presented to celebrate Veterans Day.
American Niagara Hospitality Honoring Veterans & Active-Duty Service Members with Discounts at Restaurants inside Sheraton
American Niagara Hospitality announced its Rainforest Café, TGI Fridays and Starbucks locations will honor Western New York veterans and active-duty service members on Veterans Day, Nov. 11.
Both restaurants will offer a free entrée to veterans and active-duty service members when they bring their families and friends to either restaurant. Children within the party will also receive a free game card to At The Falls Arcade, located next to both restaurants. As a part of Starbucks national Veterans Day campaign, the Starbucks Café, located inside the Sheraton At The Falls will give out free tall (12 fluid ounce) hot brewed coffees to active-duty service members and veterans.
Vice President of Operations for American Niagara Hospitality Doug Nickerson said, "We are honored to offer these discounts to our local active-duty military, veterans and their families on this day of remembrance. With many of our own associates being veterans, we know the importance of giving back to those who have served and defended our country every day. This is just a small token of our appreciation."

Starbucks Salutes Armed Forces
This year, Starbucks has several ways to show appreciation to those protecting this country.
Any veteran, active duty military and military spouse who visits Starbucks on Saturday, Nov. 11, will be treated to a free tall coffee.
Through Nov. 15, for every Veterans Day Starbucks card purchased, Starbucks will donate $5 to veterans organizations strengthening local communities through service: Team Rubicon, Team Red, White & Blue, and The Mission Continues.
Also through Nov. 15, Starbucks partners (employees) can donate their weekly coffee bag benefit to troops serving overseas, building on the 60,000 pounds of coffee (1.5 million cups!) shipped to service members overseas last year.
Veterans Day Soup Dinner, Pasta
The Newfane United Methodist Church will host a free Veterans Day Soup Dinner from 4:30-6:30 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the church, 2699 Main St., Newfane.
The event is open to all, and several varieties of soup will be available, along with desserts and a drink.
A free-will offering will be taken. Donations will go to help people who have been affected by the recent natural disasters.
•Lower Niagara Moose Lodge 584 invites area veterans to its annual Veterans Day pasta dinner at 6 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 11, at the lodge, 112 S. Water St., Lewiston.
The dinner is hosted by "Back to Battan" Bob Koryl. The cost for the dinner is $15, with proceeds to benefit WNY Heroes Inc.
Entertainment will feature music by Dave Stayner.

UB Dental to Offer Free Care to WNY Vets on Veterans Day
In honor of Veterans Day, the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine welcomes local veterans to receive a day of free dental screenings, extractions, restorations and denture repairs through its third annual "Dentistry Smiles on Veterans."
The program - a partnership between UB Dental, the New York State Dental Association and the Eighth District Dental Society - will provide free dental care to nearly 200 Western New York veterans.
The event will take place on Veterans Day, Saturday, Nov. 11, from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. in the UB Dental Clinic in Squire Hall on the South Campus.

The Niagara Falls Air Reserve Station Honor Guard will lead a procession into the clinic at 8:30 a.m. Congressman Brian Higgins, New York State Sen. Timothy M. Kennedy, UB Provost Dr. Charles F. Zukoski and Dr. Joseph J. Zambon - SUNY Distinguished Teaching Professor and dean of the School of Dental Medicine - will deliver remarks immediately following the procession.
"It is an honor for the University at Buffalo School of Dental Medicine and the dental profession to help veterans who have served and protected our country," said Brendan Dowd, D.D.S., clinical assistant professor in the department of restorative dentistry.
"Dentistry Smiles on Veterans" aims to deliver needed services to veterans who lack dental insurance or do not qualify for dental treatment through the Veterans Health Administration, a benefit reserved only for those with service-related dental injuries.
Throughout the day, more than 100 Buffalo-area dentists and hygienists, and UB dental students, faculty and staff will volunteer to provide care that ranges from simple cleanings to oral surgery.
This year, the program will also offer health screenings from student and faculty volunteers in the UB School of Nursing.
