The City and Town of Lockport are once again showing their appreciation for the men and women of law enforcement through "Lockport Blue." The grassroots campaign will continue through Nov. 30.
Area school activities include a student-created movie, "Reading with a Cop," a flag ceremony, panel discussions on leadership in law enforcement and women in law enforcement, assemblies and "Coffee with a Cop."
A book called "I Love a Cop" will be given to each law enforcement member to share with their respective families. The book deals with the many issues and stresses related to the job for family members. The books were made possible with a grant from the Niagara County Legislature.
Citizens and groups can show their support by displaying stick flags, signs and blue lights, all available for purchase at Grimble's Hardware on West Main Street in downtown Lockport and Spalding Hardware on Davison Road.
Mary Brennan Taylor, "Lockport Blue's" co-chair, said, "This year there are so many new ideas and events, and we hope that the 'I Love a Cop' book generates discussions on some of the hard realities faced by the men and women in blue and their families. "
Co-chair Ellen Martin added, "Last year's event struck a chord with so many people. We think it made a positive difference in our community and want this to continue - and to grow over the years."
