Dr. Henrik Borgstrom has been appointed associate provost at Niagara University.
Borgstrom holds a B.A. in French from the College of William and Mary, as well as an M.A. and Ph.D. in French language and literature from the University of Wisconsin-Madison. He also earned a theological certificate from the School of Theology at the University of the South - Sewanee.
Borgstrom joined the NU faculty in 1998, and served as chair of the department of modern and classical languages from 2004-13. Under his leadership, the department added courses in Chinese, Japanese and Arabic, and more than doubled the enrollment in its departmental offerings. Borgstrom also advocated for and oversaw the implementation of a successful minor in American Sign Language and deaf studies.
Borgstrom was promoted to professor in 2013. His scholarly contributions are substantial, with multiple peer-reviewed publications and creative works. His service to the university is also extensive, and includes time as chair of the senate outcomes assessment committee and as a member of the university budget board, as well as three years as associate dean of the College of Arts and Sciences. In addition, Borgstrom has served on the committee on promotion and tenure and held the position of a NULTA executive.
For the past several months, Borgstrom has served as interim associate provost. His talent and energy has been focused on identifying and addressing inefficiencies across the university. To date, NU said, his efforts have resulted in subtle but critical changes in the processes and procedures at Niagara. He does this while maintaining a 2-by-2 teaching load in his home department, as the associate provost position is currently defined as a hybrid faculty-administration position.
