The fifth annual Sweet Chalk Festival in Lockport is slated for July 15-16 in the municipal parking lots at Pine and Main streets.
The festival has become a premier chalk event in Western New York. With the talents of local and internationally renowned artists, downtown Lockport will be transformed into temporary art museums.
This year's theme is "Veni Vidi Creatus" ("I came, I saw, I chalked").
Festival organizer Ellen Martin said, "The festival has grown each year and we're very excited about what is planned for this year's event. It doesn't matter if you're into classic works of art or cartoon characters, we'll have something for everyone."
Little chalkers are welcome to try their hand at any drawing they choose, and visitors can help choose the Fan Favorite.
This year's festival is made possible by grants from the Grigg Lewis Foundation, Art Service Initiative of Western New York, Yahoo!, the Greater Lockport Development Corp. and M&T Bank.
"We're always looking for additional donations to offer artists a small stipend - or simply in-kind donations such as coupons, water or other things to help the artists as they work in the hot sun," Martin said.
