For the eighth year, the Erie County Fair will host "Fair Camp" this summer.

This two-and-a-half-day camp welcomes children for a behind-the-scenes fair experience. Participants have the opportunity to sleep in the barn and help with chores, work with a concessionaire, explore the Fairgrounds, and learn how to show livestock in their own "Fair Camp Showmanship Show."

This camp is offered for free to children ages 8-10 and their same-sex parent/guardian. The camp hosts two sessions, one each week of the fair (Friday-Sunday, Aug. 12-14 and 19-21).

Due to a limited amount of space in each session, children are required to apply for an opportunity to attend "Fair Camp." Applications are available now and are due no later than May 16. Applicants are encouraged to add posters, photos or other pieces to demonstrate why they should be chosen for the opportunity to attend the camp. Final selections for 2016 camp will be made no later than June 1.

Past participants of the camp have gone on to join their local chapters of 4-H, some have leased animals and continue to show at the Erie County Fair, and others are encouraging their friends to sign up for the camp. Parents and guardians who have attended "Fair Camp" have praised the program for its fun, yet educational programming and the once-in-a-lifetime experiences it has afforded their children.

Applications may be downloaded viawww.ecfair.org. For questions or to have an application mailed to you, contact Amber Pufpaff at 716-649-3900, ext. 6499.
